ABOUT THE FAT OYSTER

The Fat Oyster Bar & Eatery is located on the promenade in Orewa, Auckland and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The food here is locally sourced where possible, delicious and reasonably priced. It's a great place to stop by for lunch or dinner and enjoy the beachfront. The restaurant has an upmarket, casual atmosphere with friendly staff, who will make sure that your meal and time with us is enjoyable. The restaurant offers outdoor dining just minutes from the water, as well as indoor seating for up to 40 diners. The Fat Oyster is best known for its seafood, but also offers a variety of other dishes, including classic international comfort food with a Kiwi twist. The fat oysters, an oyster haven that truly lives up to its reputation. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance set a tone of elegance and comfort, perfectly suited for a seafood feast. The star of the show, without a doubt, were the oysters and served with a variety of unique accompaniments that enhanced their natural flavor - each bite was a delightful journey through the sea’s bounty. The oysters Rockefeller were a masterclass in balance, with the rich, creamy topping complimenting the oysters’ briny goodness. Service was impeccable – attentive but not intrusive. The staff was knowledgeable, recommending the perfect wine pairings and offering insights into the different types of oysters available. In summary, the fat oysters is a must-visit for any oyster enthusiast or seafood lover. The combination of exquisite food, welcoming ambiance, and top-notch service make it deserving of a solid five-star rating. I can’t wait to return and indulge in their oyster offerings again!

I had the pleasure of trying The Fat Oyster with my family this evening. I had the steak and Let me tell you the sensation i felt in my mouth was mind blowing. Every bite exploding with flavour! I made noises I’ve never made before with each bite! I will definitely be back. Great food, great drinks and amazing staff. The chef scotty even came to the table to introduce himself to my family. Will be back. Kid-friendliness: They had a great kids menu with a few options. My son had the fish and chips and it was cooked to perfection

OUR STORY

Meet Mandie and Scott, the local husband and wife duo that own and run The Fat Oyster.

WHEN YOU SEE A GAP, FILL IT!

Don’t let their vitality and youthful good looks deceive you, Scott and Mandie are two grisly veterans of the hospitality industry both in New Zealand and abroad.

Scott and Mandie met on the hospo scene over 20 years ago and collectively have 60+ years experience in the bar and restaurant game, most recently at Soul, Harbourside, North Wharf and Gables Speights Ale House. Both have worked from the ground up and have pretty much seen and done it all.

They’ve been wrangling their 3 kiddos into adulthood at home whilst working their arses off for other people at their respective jobs, up until recently that is.
Living in the area they were bemused with the local dining options and decided that they could apply their passion for the industry and extensive knowledge to provide a stand-out location and service to the local community and visitors alike.

The kiddos are now officially young men and those jobs are a distant memory.
